EIP-137 defines a registry and resolver framework for mapping human-readable names to associated resources, including Ethereum addresses.
The system allows applications to resolve names through on-chain records rather than requiring users to handle raw hexadecimal strings everywhere.
Name resolution became a bridge between Ethereum’s protocol layer and a more familiar user experience.
Readable names introduce their own risks—expiration, ownership changes and lookalike names—so resolution must be checked in context.
