Dencun added blob transactions to support rollup data
The March 2024 Dencun upgrade introduced EIP-4844 blob-carrying transactions, creating a separate data-availability lane for rollups.
The design aimed to lower rollup data costs without placing all compressed data in ordinary calldata.
Dencun represented a shift toward scaling Ethereum through a broader rollup ecosystem.
Lower data costs can help layer-two fees, but actual savings depend on rollup design, demand and how applications pass costs to users.
