The 10,000-BTC pizza transaction made Bitcoin’s payment idea tangible
In May 2010, BitcoinTalk forum user Laszlo Hanyecz offered 10,000 BTC for two pizzas, an early documented exchange of bitcoin for a physical good.
The episode showed a basic property of bearer-style digital money: a holder could authorize a transfer directly, while a separate merchant supplied the real-world item.
The trade later became a cultural marker because it connected an abstract digital asset with an ordinary purchase.
The story is not a price-performance lesson; it is an early record of experimentation around utility, denomination and what people would accept in exchange.
