The SEC cleared a path for spot Ether ETP listings
In May 2024 the SEC approved exchange rule changes related to listing spot Ether exchange-traded products, following a rapid sequence of filings and amendments.
The step differed from the later registration effectiveness required before products began trading.
It extended the regulated ETP market beyond Bitcoin and renewed questions about how staking and asset classification are treated.
Approval of an exchange rule filing is not the same as the product’s first trading day or a general SEC view on every Ether-related activity.
